Seems somebody has started cleaning out their basement, found Mel Gibson, dusted him off and put him on the big screen again as Thomas Craven in Edge of Darkness a ruthless thriller about murder and conspiracy.
Mel Gibson plays Thomas Craven, a Boston-based homicide detective who finds his daughter shot dead on his own doorstep after not seeing her for a long time. Craven and the Boston PD start working under the assumption that he was in fact the target, and get entangled in a corporate conspiracy at the highest level.
Mel Gibson seems to have taken a few years since we've last seen him on the big screen, but that fact probably makes him the ideal candidate for his part in this film. Tom Craven is an older, slightly bitter man living alone in a big house after his wife died and his daughter started living on her own. When he and his daughter are re-united, it would only be for a short time, starting the witch hunt that is at the centre of this film.
Sit back, relax, and watch old Mel give his best once more. That is all you can expect of this film, and that is all you will get. Nothing more, nothing less, that earns you 3/5 stars.
